Visit Sheringham on the North Norfolk Coast, ideal for a walk on the Norfolk Coast Path and, maybe, a swim in the sea

Have a day out in Sheringham, on the North Norfolk Coast

You may well be staying in sunny Lowestoft for a few days, but it'd be a shame if you didn't get out and explore some of the area. Yesterday, we did just that. A day out in Sheringham was the order of the day. Sheringham is an hour and a ¼ from Lowestoft, so although a bit of a hike, it's well worth the drive to see some of North Norfolk.

Parking is a doddle, there is a large car park on the edge of town, right next to the Poppy Line railway station - which runs a steam train into Holt, but more of that in a minute. You can walk to the seafront within a couple of minutes. The photo above shows the blue sky over the pebble beach - and although I can't guarantee the weather, Sheringham certainly makes for a lovely day out when the sun is shining!

The sea is lovely for a swim during the summer months, our visit was in late September, which , technically speaking, is autumn, the sea temperature has yet to catch up with the autumnal status, and still makes for a pleasant swim!

Sheringham isn't all about the sea though. You can, rather excitingly, take a steam train to Holt. Ride the 'Poppy Line' and you'll feel like you're travelling through the 1950's. The photo below was taken on the move, and shows the fantastic views across the Norfolk countryside to the sea in the distance.

Once at Holt, there is a mile walk into the centre of this quaint Norfolk town. The bus stop is right outside the station too. During the summer months a London Route Master bus will whisk you into Holt - so you can continue your olde worlde experience; our autumnal timetable meant we caught the number 44 bus instead.
